7th CPC Classification of Posts
The classification of posts under the 7th Central Pay Commission is important to understand the different pay scales, grade pay, pay matrix, and other important information.
Classification of Posts under the 5th CPC were as Follows
Post description | Classification |
Post carrying scale of pay or pay. The maximum amount for the same should not be less than Rs.13,500. | Group A |
Maximum pay between Rs.9,000 and Rs.13,500 | Group B |
Maximum pay between Rs.4,000 and Rs.9,000 | Group C |
Maximum pay below Rs.4,000 | Group D |
The classification of posts under the 6th CPC were as follows:

CS Scale - fixed amount of Rs.90,000 Apex Scale - fixed amount of Rs.80,000 HAG Scale - Rs.75,500 to Rs.80,000 Grade Pay - Rs.12,000, Rs.10,000, Rs.8,900, and Rs.8,700 (PB-4) Grade Pay of Rs.7,600, Rs.6,600, and Rs.5,400 (PB-3) | Group A |
Grade Pay of Rs.5,400, Rs.4,800, Rs.4,600, and Rs.4,200 (PB-2) | Group B |
Grade Pay of Rs.2,800, Rs.2,400, Rs.2,000, Rs.1,900, and Rs.1,800 (PB-1) | Group C |
Grade Pay of Rs.1,300, Rs.1,400, Rs.1,600, and Rs.1,650 in the (Rs.4,440 to Rs.7,440) scale of pay in 1S Scale. This is valid till the upgradation of posts. | Group D |
